Organised by Saint-Fun International, the RB Grand Prize Championship, which features total prize money of NT$300,000 (€7400), held its spring tournament in May at the GTI Asia Taipei Expo. Entering its sixth year, the China Cup Street Basketball International Tournament-Taiwan qualification competition also kicked off at the GTI Asia Taipei Expo.
Starting in February, 45 RB Grand Prize Tournament preliminary matches had earlier taken place and attracted the participation of more than 600 contestants. The RB motion-sensing rhythm game has taken Taiwan by storm. Intermediate matches kicked off on 23 April in different regions, taking place at Tom’s World Luodong Minsheng Store (eastern district), Sanchong TianTai Square (northern district), Carrefour Neili Store (Taoyuan and Hsinchu district), Dino’s World New Age Store (central district), Dino’s World Tainan Ambassador Store (southern district 1) and MEGA Kaohsiung Xinjuejiang (southern district 2). A total of 16 contestants were qualified for the final.
According to organiser Saint-Fun, those entering the final tournament were presented with black RB trendy T-shirts designed by Konami of Japan. Since they were first revealed on the Internet, the limited-edition RB T-shirts have become a dream souvenir of players. Besides scholarships, the first three winners from the spring tournament will also get to enter the year-end final and compete for the grand prize of NT$100,000 (€2500).
