Players flock to Shaun
Published:  26 July, 2011

Shaun the Sheep licensed toys are proving a hit with operators of crane games, according to Namco Prize Europe. Exclusive supplier in Europe, the Middle East and Africa of the range based on the Aardman Animations character, Namco is offering Shaun in a choice of different sizes and outfits.

And Brent Electronics, its UK distributor, quickly sold out of the 30cm size as amusements operators found it attracting customers to their crane games. The toys are also being used in prize vending machines such as Dunk Tank Prize, Barbercut and Clenaflex machines, and in redemption.

“The property is loved by all. The characters appeal to younger viewers and there is a lot of tongue-in-cheek humour for the older generations. The brand is going from strength to strength and the followers of Shaun on Facebook have surpassed the 1m mark. We are working with Aardman to promote the brand and to promote amusement and leisure locations stocking the products,” said James Anderson, EMEA sales manager for Namco Prize Europe.

A possible 2013 Shaun the Sheep film could also heighten interest, the company said.

Separately, Namco and Brent are also now offering operators the Kyoto Lifestyle range of electronics, such as a high-definition video camera and digital still camera.

Said Anderson: “The range is very good and the initial feedback from the market is that the in-house-designed packaging will be appealing to players, as it looks of high-end retail standard, in comparison to some of the other similarly-priced products on the market. We have access to some of the best manufacturers in the Far East and are continually reviewing new products, with plans to expand the range in the near future.”

Each product's value is less than the maximum amount allowed by the 2005 Gambling Act, the firm said, so they can legally be offered in gaming machines that deliver objects as prizes.
