After more than a year’s preparation, the Microsoft Game Technology Platform was officially unveiled at the national video-game industrial centre in Chengdu, Sichuan on September 19.
The ceremony was attended by leaders of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and the People’s Government of Chengdu City, as well as Chen Yongzheng, Microsoft’s vice- president and CEO of the Great China region.
Owing to the status of Sichuan province’s video-game market and the need to promote the development of China’s gaming industry, the Ministry of Culture approved the establishment of the national video-game industrial centre in March, 2005. To improve training procedures, product development and international cooperation, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture has started a variety of market surveys and studies at the centre. It also conducts national industrial planning and research, and analyses the global video-game industry’s development. The department has recognised that Microsoft can help upgrade the national centre’s production capability and assist domestic enterprises to enhance the competitiveness of China’s gaming industry.
