Why Hendry must qualify again

Despite winning the world snooker championships seven times, Stephen Hendry will have to qualify again for this year’s British championship after dropping out of the top 16.

He currently stands 21st in the UK rankings, but only those holding the first 16 places are guaranteed to compete in the championship event, which takes place 3-11 December at York Barbican.

To qualify, Hendry needs to win a November match at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester.
