Global VR’s EA Sports PGA Tour Golf Challenge Edition is a well-proven video game that enables players to join a national online (option) tournament to win cash prizes, while at the same time accruing Plus Points that entitle them to access a choice of websites to purchase a wide array of goods.
Recent World Tour PGA player Oscar Thomas (pictured) has just redeemed his points to obtain a Canon Mini DV Camcorder, Sony digital camera and memory stick for free.
“I thought that my free trip to Las Vegas, representing the UK to play in the world championship and winning cash, was reward enough for playing PGA Challenge, so these Plus Points gifts are a real bonus,” he said.
“While this is not a new concept, Global Plus Points are an additional reward for patronage, with prizes coming from varied high-street retailers. At the same time, players are competing to win tournament cash prizes,” said Glenn Wearn from UK distributor Cosmic Video Amusements.
“The players’ perception of Plus Points is that they enjoy the game, they are playing to win money and prestige, and even if they do not make the leader board, they still get a return on investment. It’s not just money lost as they are drawn to this game. It becomes their game of choice and if that’s good for the game, it’s equally good for the location.”
