Sega Amusements Europe has confirmed that the Preview show was a great success. With a move upstairs to the main floor and a bigger stand, the range of product was strong and varied.
The two stars of the show were Afterburner Climax, in three cabinet formats, from standard through to the three-point motion simulator, and the innovative Let’s Go Jungle - a fantasy jungle adventure two-player shooter, which was shown in a Jeep-themed theatre cabinet.
Justin Burke of Sega said, “While we all knew Afterburner would be a strong seller due to its history and the sensational new cabinet formats, we had no gauge for Let’s Go Jungle. It’s been some time since Sega produced a theatre cabinet, let alone a fantasy gun game. To our delight, it has been a winner at all the European shows.
Backing up Sega’s claim, Steve Bryant of the Deith Group confirmed: “It was a great show for us on the Sega front. Let’s Go Jungle harks back to days gone by when you could leave a show with solid orders in place. It’s the kind of innovative but fun game that the industry needs it’s a good all-round game with cross-player appeal.”
Burke continued, “We had a three-figure total production quantity of Let’s Go Jungle that we had committed to manufacture. We managed 75 per cent of that number at the show just to the UK, so we are well pleased, to say the least. Add on the Rome and Madrid shows and ATEI, and suddenly we are potentially on for four times what we anticipated.”
