The International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) has chosen the Strachan brand and UK-based Milliken Woollen Speciality Products as its official cloth partner for the next three years. The agreement was signed by IBSF President Pascal Guillaume, with Duncan Kettell representing Milliken, during the Federation’s annual general meeting in Jordan.
The contract means that Milliken will now play a leading role in both the amateur and professional game – having signed a three-year contract with the WPBSA in 2006. During the AGM in Amman, hosted by Jordan’s Prince Faisal bin Abdullah, Duncan Kettell announced the introduction of a new cloth for exclusive use at IBSF world championship events and to be sold worldwide through Milliken’s global distribution network. Called 6811 Tournament Select, the cloth is to be co-branded under the Strachan and IBSF names and was described by Kettell as an exciting development in his company’s relationship with the IBSF. “The Strachan brand is respected worldwide and is invariably chosen by tournament organisers and snooker’s leading players. Manufactured to a high specification that will ensure perfect playing conditions, 6811 Tournament Select will open new global marketing opportunities for us,” he said. “The Federation is working hard to broaden the appeal of snooker worldwide, last year taking its world team championships to the USA for the first time. And new countries are joining each year, the latest including Israel, Libya, Korea and Russia. “High quality cloth is essential if young players are to develop their skills and we are delighted to offer this very special version of the Strachan brand to amateur players and tournament organisers worldwide.” Guillaume said: “The IBSF is very pleased to have reached this new, exciting agreement with Milliken and was impressed by Milliken’s initiative to develop IBSF 6811 Tournament Select. “I am confident this partnership with the prestigious Strachan brand will enable us to promote our sport to achieve new heights of professionalism,” he added.
