Police, prosecutors and other officials in Alabama, Florida and Texas are cracking down on adult arcades, gray-area video slots, eight-liners and other forms of “adult redemption” games.
A recent Alabama State Supreme Court ruling against games of chance at a dog track would shut down hundreds of adult arcades throughout the state. The court ruling became final on January 30, and all county law enforcement aimed to halt operation that day. Jacksonville, Florida officials are awaiting the outcome of a lawsuit against adult gaming parlors before voting on a bill to regulate adult arcades, which some officials believe “prey on the elderly.” Local media predicts the passage of the bill, whenever it comes up for a vote. In Texas, Austin police raided nine different locations citywide in January, seizing more than 400 eight-liner machines.
