Last month Cirsa and Ladbrokes presented the new kinds of sporting bets to the operators of amusement arcades and bingo halls in the autonomous region of Madrid. With an investment of 30 million euros and a forecast, for the first year, of more than 150 betting points it will employ 150 people.
Madrid is the first region to approve the Betting Regulations and initially the activity will be focused on sporting bets, covering a broad range of sports that will include soccer, golf, tennis, basketball and flat racing, among others, and turnover is expected to reach 80 million euros for the first year of operation. The new company, the product of the joint-venture in which both groups own 50%, will operate under the name of “SPORTIUM” and it is expected to start operating this year within the autonomous region of Madrid. In principle, the activity will be marketed through operators of bingo halls and gaming arcades although not discounting the opening of special halls, nor the marketing of bets through other channels, such as over the telephone or the Internet, although it will be the traditional channel that takes the initiative. The English company Ladbrokes is one of the leading companies in this kind of betting, with clients in more than 200 countries. Likewise, the Cirsa Corporation is considered as the foremost Spanish gaming group and is present in more than 70 countries.
