Following John Higgins’ victory in the World Snooker Championships, the focus now switches to the amateur game, where Strachan is also the leading cloth supplier. Having recently concluded contracts with the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) and the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS), the company’s latest product – 6811 Tournament Select – will be used for the first time at a series of competitions in Asia.
The eighth Asian Under 21 snooker and billiard championships has attracted players from 15 countries and runs from May 24 to June 2 in Qatar - with Thailand’s Pramul Jantad seeded number one. Qatar will also host the sixth Asian billiard championships in June, when number one seed Aung Sun Oo from Myanmar will defend his title against players from 10 other countries. And the Asian snooker championships, won last year by Thailand’s Issara Kachaiwong, will take place in Karachi from June 11-17. “John Higgins joins a long list of world champions to have won their title on Strachan cloth,” reports Milliken Woollen Speciality Products marketing director Duncan Kettell (pictured). “There have now been 16 world champions in the last 29 years but only a single cloth supplier and our association with snooker must be one of the longest in professional sport.”
