Eight companies are hoping to win the three licences to run the commercial betting operation in the Basque Country. This data was revealed by the Department of the Interior in an official notice issued on 6th July.
The companies that are competing are: Garaipen Victoria Apustuak (Codere and William Hill), Apuestas del País Vasco, Sportium Euskadi (CIRSA), Euskal Kirol Apostuak, Intralot Euskadi (EKASA), TeleApostuak Promotora de Juegos y Apuestas, Basquesport (Picmatic and Stan James) and Betting Terminales. Theoretically the Department of the Interior must make the award in November of this year. All the companies must be based in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, have accredited experience in gaming and have a minimum share capital of 1 million euros. In 2002 the EKASA company created the RETA operating system. This system handles the online use of machines for validating the bets.
