Following the 2005 devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, businessman John Georges has decided to run as an independent candidate for the governor’s job. Georges’s businesses include AMA Distributors and Lucky Coin, a route operation, in a New Orleans suburb. Georges campaigned as a Republican, with low ratings in the political polls. He had debated whether to run as either a Democrat or becoming an Independent candidate. Georges claims the switch will increase hi appeal to voters on both sides of the governmental aisle. In September, the U.S. Treasury Department's Bureau of Engraving and Printing unveiled its redesigned $5 bill, scheduled to go into circulation next spring. Notice of the proposed design changes went out to manufacturers of ATM and “other cash-oriented machines” more than a year ago. The Treasury wanted to offer ample adjustment time. Printing began in late September. Similar to the $10, $20 and $50 bills, new pastel colors and a second watermark identify an authentic bill.
