Soundnet signed its first digital audio jukebox licence in 2005. It was a landmark in music licensing as it allowed 30,000 digital tracks to be held on a jukebox hard drive. This allowed Soundnet to offer customers the entire Top 40 UK charts since their inception in 1952 - all on one box.

The first hard-disc digital video jukebox licence was signed by Soundnet in 2001. This was another milestone for the jukebox industry as it brought the cumbersome VHS video jukebox into the 21st Century and revitalised sales.

The Soundnet service is threefold:

1. Profiling: Soundnet picks the music that suits the location, ensuring the right tracks are available to play at the right times of the day 

2. Updating: Soundnet deals with over 350 UK record companies getting content on to the jukeboxes before it can be bought in the shops

3. Licensing: Soundnet ensures the customer is licensed - by paying the PPL & VPL

"By renewing these landmark licences we have paved the way for the UK digital jukebox industry going forward but we are not resting here. As the only jukebox company represented in the Music Users Council we are also working hard to improve music users' rights in the UK and in Europe," he added.
