DDJ may appear to be a relative newcomer on the scene but in fact the company was formed in 1996 to specialize in digital juke boxes that were really only just becoming to be known. With the company R&D hailing from New Zealand, the company now has manufacturing (and sales) facilities in Brazil; South Africa; and Shenzhen, China.
DDJ is better known in Europe as the former software supplier to the Almotech, (Ireland) "Mystro" juke box.
For the last two years, under the leadership of long time CEO Dave Jaques, DDJ Corporation has been undertaking extensive redevelopment of its product range with innovative features spanning across software and hardware (including electronics and cabinetry). The results of these major changes will be shown for the first time in January at ATEI (stand 2440) and is sure to attract strong interest in the home market (retail), DJ portable solutions as well as from their wide range of classic and modern coin operated free-standing and wall-mounted jukeboxes.
As evident from the company website (www.DDJDigital.com) the company offers a very wide range of cabinets from the traditional ‘bubbler' style (both wall-mounted and free-standing) to quite new and fresh designs (like the "Music Note" wall-mount). The company also offers dedicated karaoke players, ‘behind the counter' self-drive systems and a commercial ‘cash and carry' rig the "Porta-DJ".
Major advancements have been achieved on the electronic makeup of the system so much so that now nearly all of the internals run on only 12 volts (including the computer). All components are now also completely modular so that many components (such as amplifiers, touch panels, LCDs and computers) can be removed without any tools at all. This makes remote site maintenance substantially easier combined with the low temperature (fanless) elements of this new technology.
On the software front, DDJ can now boast being 100% compatible with all languages both from a front end user point of view but also with all of the Service Screens. As you would expect all functions (including bass/treble, time/date and maintenance) can now be controlled from within the software without ever needing to connect a mouse and/or keyboard.
The advertising capabilities of the new software are also significantly increased with the support of three-screen support (juke box selection, TV output and a further dedicated advertising screen) enabling video music clips to display full screen on the main system plus on plasmas around a venue while dedicated advertising continues uninterrupted.
Other software enhancements include "Unattended Karaoke Mode" to call people up to sing, live real-time beat-mixing/scratching on the DJ side, with the ability to synchronize in drums, also in real time, to alter the ‘flavour' of the music, and automatically stay in time.
